County Councillor Becki Woods - Co-opted Governor (Vice Chair)

COUNTY COUNCILLOR BECKI WOODS-  CO-OPTED GOVERNOR

I came to Glossop in 1988 at the age of 15 having moved from Whitby but I was actually born in Devon .I attended Glossop Comprehensive School for the last three terms of my secondary education and then for two years at High Peak College where I studied Art. Then I went on to study Media Production, Television and Video Competence at the Workers Film Association in Manchester. In 1996 I went into Advertising, Media Planning and Buying and worked in various agencies and have worked on marketing projects with local firms. I have a keen interest   in politics and local issues and hold various offices in High Peak Labour Party. In May 2017I was elected as County Councillor for the Etherow Division and was privileged to be re-elected for the same division in 2021

As Vice Chair of Hadfield Infants I have sought to play a significant role. At times council business has affected my attendance at some meetings during this difficult year but I am always kept updated by the Chair and Head and make regular visits to the school.

I am interested in adult social care as it is an issue close to my heart having a brother and niece with Down’s syndrome. Regarding my interest in education I was brought up and surrounded by schools and all matters educational. My grandmother was a primary head teacher, my aunt was a school secretary and my father was a Primary Head and his last post before retiring was at New Mills Primary School. Whilst I was growing up the only newspapers in my home were The Guardian and the Times Educational Supplement.

I have various interests including Art, Photography, Cooking, Technology, Football, Walking but many are community based.
