I became a Governor way back in 2000 / 2001 when my son first started school. Why? Because my job at the time involved working with a range of primary schools across Tameside and Manchester and I was passionate about every child having the best possible start to their future lives through opportunities to learn and to develop as confident, well rounded, little people. I still have that same passion which is why I’m still a Governor 13 years on. I’m currently Vice-Chair of Governors and Chair of the Teaching & Learning Committee which, through monitoring and being a critical friend, focuses on ensuring that all children are making progress in their learning to the best of their ability. We support through monitoring the school improvement plan, the progress and achievement in curriculum areas and regularly gather feedback from children and parents. In addition I lead on the Reading Friends scheme in school – recruiting and training local parents, grandparents and members of the community to give one to one reading support and encouragement to our children.
All in all it’s a challenging role at times but I feel my skills are valued and help to make a difference.
