Free School Meals

Our school was recently awarded the status of a 'Health Promoting School'. This award recognises that health issues are an important and on-going part of our life at Hadfield Infant School. We have an active, whole school approach to helping our children adopt a healthy lifestyle.

We have also recently brightened up our dining area with a mural promoting healthy eating. More details in this news item.

School Dinners
School meals are cooked on the premises by a very experienced cook and her team. Lunch consists of two courses and there are always several choices including a vegetarian option. Milk or water is provided with each meal. The cost of a meal is £1.70 per day, payable a week in advance on Mondays.

child's thoughtsIf you wish, your child can bring a packed lunch from home. As we promote healthy eating in school our only request is that you do not include sweets, chocolate or fizzy drinks in the lunch box.

We believe that lunchtime should be a pleasurable, social time for all our children. All our children therefore eat together with their friends in the hall. Once a year parents have the opportunity to join us in this social time through an invitation to come along and have a school lunch with their child and friends.

Playtime snack
We are part of the national scheme which provides a piece of fruit per day for each child in school, therefore no snacks should be sent from home. As all children eat their fruit together we find that it encourages them to try fruits they may have not eaten before.

Drinks during the day
It is a proven fact that children perform and concentrate better when they drink plenty of water. Bottles of water, therefore, are available for sale in school for 20p. As an alternative, you may send your child with a bottle of water from home.

Healthy snacks at discos
Our PTA run regular school discos for the children. We have recently decided to switch to only providing healthy food at the discos, which has been surprisingly popular with the children!
