The gardens of Hadfield Infant School have been transformed this year, with several projects improving all areas of the outdoor environment.

One scheme, Derbyshire County Council's 'Growing Together', has got us going with growing all sorts of vegetables. The scheme provided us with a new greenhouse, raised flowerbeds and fruit trees.

Teaching Assistant-cum-head gardener Mandy Vella has organised the children into teams of enthusiatic gardeners, planting tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, peas, onions, carrots, spring onions, sprouts and broccoli.

Mrs Vella said "I am so proud of the effort and enthusiasm of the children, they love to be involved. Let's hope we have a bumper crop and we can sell produce, or have some kind of celebration supper with the veg."

Thanks also to Louise Valentine of the Growing Together scheme, governor Sylvia Garratt who has also invested a lot of her free time in the new venture, and everyone who helped set the new facilities up.
